Biography

TiramiSu – “Stell mich auf”

Jazz- und Vocal Ensemble TiramiSu

The jazz and vocal ensemble TiramiSu tries - without much technical assistance - to interpret jazz pieces in a high quality way. Sometimes a cappella, sometimes with accompaniment (piano, bass, drums) also arrangements of the styles pop, rock, gospel and spirituals are sung. The joy of singing these different styles of music connects the approximately 30 women and men from the canton of Friborg.

The choir was founded in 1990 by graduates of the Lehrerseminars Freiburg. But for a long time the choir no longer consists of teachers, but of a colorful mix of singers of all professional groups and of all ages. The choir was conducted at the beginning by Robb Correll. Since 1995, Stéphane Cosandey has been responsible for the musical direction.

he choir shows its skills several times a year during public appearances. Under professional guidance the singers practice once a week for two hours. There will be a trial day in autumn and a singing weekend in spring.

Welcome are all those interested who can identify with the music of the choir and want to get involved. With TiramiSu the principle applies: to work seriously, without taking too much ...

By the way: The name TiramiSu was derived from Italian and means something like: get me up!

Composition

We are a mixed vocal ensemble with about 30 German- and French-speaking singers of different age groups and professional genres from the region around Düdingen, Freiburg and Murten.

Musical orientation

The songs are mainly presented in English. Depending on the program, African texts (Jazz meets Africa) or languages from other countries are also represented. Of course, the French language should not be missed, since the choir consists of singers of both languages and would like to promote bilingualism wherever possible.

The repertoire is essentially composed of jazz standards (Bepob, Swing), but it is also interpreted pieces from the fields of funk, Latin America, spirituals or even rock. The programs are alternately performed A Capella or with musical accompaniment.

What makes TiramiSu unique is the fact that jazz pieces are sung by a many-headed choral formation. As a rule, jazz is played by musicians, solo singers or ensembles such as "Manhattan Transfer", each with a voice cast interpreted and presented. The musical direction is influenced by the versatility of his conductor Stéphane Cosandey. The musician with heart and soul is looking for new music from all directions. Nevertheless, jazz consistently runs through all programs like a red thread - and that will certainly remain so in the future!

Objectives

As the name implies:

TiramiSu - "Get up"

That's exactly what we want to offer our audience. Our choral programs, with the mentioned musical styles, deliberately differentiate themselves from gospel, folk music or classical music and close a gap in the choir landscape of Fribourg.

Genesis

First call of TiramiSu.

Tafers, Ende November 1989

The advertisement was followed in 1990 by several graduates of the teaching seminary and soon thereafter the choir TiramiSu was founded. The name "TiramiSu" means freely translated "lüpf mi uf" and expresses what singing for the members of the choir means: a performer! The choir is no longer just teachers. Today, the approximately 25-member ensemble is not only mixed in terms of vocations, but also in terms of age, origin and language.

The repertoire of the choir has very soon focused on the wide range of the jazz style.

At the beginning, the choir would be conducted by Robb Correll. Since 1995, Stéphane Cosandey has been responsible for the musical direction. Stéphane is a trained pianist in the fields of jazz and classical music and has at the same time many years of experience as a singer and conductor of various choirs.
